Bugger. March 11

I was putting this off in the hope of being able to write, "I WAS in hospital, but it's all good now."

Unfortunately, the humorless surgeon has decided I have to stay for another frigging day. Here's the story:

Sunday morning I set out with two mates to Burren Junction. The idea was to take Jay Foreman's DR650 along with a bog-stocker and a slightly modified model. About 14km onto Baldersleigh Road I hit a 'roo. Aside from some cuts and bruises I have five smashed ribs. Not cracked ribs, broken ones. The kind of broken ribs that have kept me in hospital for - so far - five days.

I have no memory of the incident. I have some weird little flash memories, but no reliable memories of anything until the next day at Armidale hospital. I kind of remember moving my finger because it was kind of cool to see a human bone moving like that (like Terminator!), and a doctor demanding I be kept still while he stitched. There's kind of a weird one that's just a single 'frame' (if you know what I mean) of the bike on its side in the air with a 'roo beside it.

Anyway, here I am. Two rides. Two hospital results. Apparently when I regained consciousness I asked one of the guys to shoot some pics. You can see them next issue. They aren't too pretty. Neither the 'roo nor her joey survived the impact, and on a good day I'm not much to look at. This was certainly not a good day.

I've been transferred back to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, and I'm gutted I wasn't allowed home today. I'm really hoping it'll be tomorrow.

More when I know more.
