The famous Phil "Dairy Farmer" Hodgens has been running Hardcore Postie trips for the last couple of years, the last one being to Tasmania, a report of which was featured in a previous chain slapping issue of TBAM(can't remember off the top of my head - Tom might remember). Each trip has a nominated charity and a minimum donation as your entry fee.
This years run is going to check out Lake Eyre in flood and starts at Tibooburra on Friday July 10, heads through to Camerons Corner, down the Strezlecki Track, through to Arkaroola in the northern Flinders Ranges and onto the Mulgaria Track which runs from Farina Ruins to the Roxby Downs Road (might be $15 fee to run this track but Phil reckons it's worth it). Then head north towards Marree and William Creek on the Oodnadatta Track. From WC head out to Lake Eyre and camp on the shores.
Phil reckons about 15 litres fuel will get a Postie from Camerons Corner to Arkaroola.
About 4 days from Tibooburra to Lake Eyre with $500 donation to RFDS as entry fee. Show your receipt to Phil on the day and you're in.
The Lake Eyre Yacht Club (!) has estimated that the lake water levels will peak around July when the trip is on. Plus it will give the most freeboard for the nutters who decide to go an amphibious conversion with their Posties.
