2010 RMZ250

Following in the footsteps of the ground-breaking Suzuki RM-Z450 motocrosser, Suzuki’s all-new, 2010 RM-Z250 will become the first production motocross machine in its class to feature electronic fuel-injection.

The RM-Z250 will introduce Suzuki’s innovative fuel-injection technology to quarter-litre, four-stroke motocross racing, in a completely-new package later this year, along with major engine, chassis and suspension developments.

Developed in competition, Suzuki’s new RM-Z250 is set to raise the bar again and further build on the model’s recent racing results.

Earlier this year, Ryan Dungey won the AMA Supercross Lites West Coast Championship on his RM-Z250, while local young gun Matt Moss leads the Australian Motocross Pro Lites Championship after dominating the Australian Supercross Pro Lites Championship in 2008.

“Fuel-injection technology has revolutionised motocross racing following its introduction on the Suzuki RM-Z450 two years ago,” Perry Morison, General Manager, Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia said.

“Now, Suzuki is set to lead the pack again with the all-new
2010 RM-Z250, the first production motocrosser in its class with a fuel injected engine.

“Adding that technology to the championship-winning
Suzuki RM-Z250 with other developments across the board in an all-new model will make it a formidable racing opponent.”

Compact, lightweight and now revving to a stunning 13,500pm, the new RM-Z250’s 249cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid cooled, DOHC powerplant is in a class of its own.

Pioneered on the RM-Z450, Suzuki’s Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system incorporates a 43mm throttle body with progressive throttle linkage and a battery-less fuel pump, giving the RM-Z250 outstanding performance.

The potent engine features titanium valves, an aluminium-alloy cylinder, with Suzuki’s Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) cylinder coating, and Suzuki Advanced Sump System (SASS).

A range of race-bred improvements make the RM-Z250 a Pro Lites-leading performer.

Revised cam timing and intake ports have enhanced high-rpm performance, without compromising the Suzuki’s impressive low-to-mid range power and torque.

The potent new engine features a new, stronger connecting rod and mirror finishing, and the crankshaft is also stronger and more rigid.

Radiator louvers have been re-designed, directing more air to the twin, side-mounted aluminium alloy radiators, keeping the RM-Z250 cool in the heat of battle.

Making the most of its new fuel injection system and powerplant, the Suzuki is also fitted with a new muffler.

With carefully selected ratios to maximise performance, the RM-Z250 has a slick-shifting, five-speed transmission, while a right-handlebar-mounted hot starter makes getting moving quick and simple.

Accompanying the sensational new engine, the Suzuki RM-Z250 has an updated chassis and suspension system offering superior cornering and tighter line selection.

Redesigned and more-rigid, a lightweight twin-spar aluminium-alloy frame delivers gains in a number of areas, including better balance and traction at high speed.

Lower frame tube walls are thicker and side rails slightly shallower, and a new swingarm has a revised centre brace to increase rigidity, with a centralised mass to deliver optimum traction.

With thoroughly revised spring and damping rates at the front and rear, the updated suspension combines with the chassis to give RM-Z250 riders razor-sharp and confidence-inspiring handling.

A 47mm inner tube, Showa inverted, twin-chamber, cartridge-style front fork offers 22-way compression damping, 20-way rebound damping and 300mm of wheel travel.

The Showa rear shock absorber combines with a revised rear suspension linkage, reducing thrust backlash and improving traction to deliver more consistent performance.

First-class front and rear disc brakes have wave rotors, optimising cooling performance and mud deflection.

A result of Suzuki’s trademark attention to detail, carefully-designed new footpeg brackets prevent mud clogging to maximise rider feel.

The RM-Z250’s textured seat gives riders plenty of grip as part of a comfortable riding position, with Renthal tapered aluminium handlebars and a Renthal-labelled handlebar pad reducing vibrations.

Featuring a whole new look, the black and yellow plastics are now offset by eye catching red, black and white graphics and are further complemented by black background numberplates.

Race ready, out of the crate, Suzuki’s all-new, 2010 RM-Z250 will be available in Australia in October 2009.
