David Knight has claimed his third Enduro 3 World Championship title, winning the 2010 E3 championship at the penultimate round of the EWC series held in Fethiye, Turkey. Finishing as runner-up on day one, and for the second consecutive event seeing his closest championship contender Christophe Nambotin fail to finish, Knight secured the title with a well deserved victory on day two.
Knowing that he had a mathematical chance of winning the title in Turkey, Knight's primary goal was simply to finish both days of the competition as best he could, then only needing a handful of points from day one at the final event in France to win the coveted E3 championship. But when Christophe Nambotin failed to finish day one David all but had one hand on the title and simply needed to finish fourth on day two to claim the title, if his team-mate Simone Albergoni won. More relaxed, and riding better than he did on day one, Knight finished 35-seconds clear at the top of the class to claim his eighth day win of the series and the '10 Enduro 3 World Championship.
David Knight: 'It's a great feeling and a big relief to have wrapped up the Enduro 3 championship. After everything that happened last year to win another world title means a lot to me, probably more than winning my first two world championships. I always believed that I could do it. I knew it wouldn't be easy to win this year, it never is, but I just kept working hard and staying positive. I was a little bit nervous on day one, but I still rode pretty well. I stayed a lot more relaxed on day two and really enjoyed the day. I'm glad the second day went well because it's good to win the championship with a day win. I have to say a big thanks to KTM, the Farioli team, my mechanic and all my sponsors, they all played a big part in helping me win this title. It's been a great event, so wining here has been really good. Before Turkey I was working towards winning the title in France. When I realised I could win in Turkey I wasn't too sure whether that might not be as special, but it's been a fantastic race. There have been people cheering the riders on all the way around the course, kids watching everywhere. The locals really seem to appreciate the championship coming to Turkey. I'm sure the organisers will have learned a lot, but hats off to them they did a fantastic job. It's been good for the championship to come to Turkey. I can have a bit of fun now at the final round in France now and enjoy what I'm sure will be a great race with no pressure.'
